“Do what makes your heart sing”

This is the mantra we were chanting (in a very Jerry Maguire-show-me-the-money fashion) at the end of the day …

The Inspired Women event, did exactly that – it inspired us to do what makes us happy. The intimate affair, conceived and co-ordinated by the dynamic Vivid Occasions duo, Lillian Ogbogoh and Margaret Udofia, made the notion that ‘work is love made visible’ quite tangible.

This event, their labour of love, got us ladies networking, chatting, sharing our stories and since we were ladies-only, we could go back for seconds (and thirds) at the delicious buffet.

The seminar got underway, after we’d browsed each of the 14 exhibition stands – everything from handmade soaps, Swarovski trinkets and aroma therapy oils were on display. We then settled down to listen to the keynote speakers.

First we met life coach, Hanna Hunter– with her mass of ringlets and infectious attitude, we listened intently to her strategies on defining your dreams and goals and crystallizing the plan to achieve them.

So, we have the tools to get out there and do what needs to be done, but we also need to look the part.

Enter Audrey Khoumba, personal stylist and a lady who takes the business of dressing-for-success very seriously. At a glance, she assesses body type, eye colour and complexion (I’m a spring, by the way). Audrey works to maximize your wardrobe using clothing and colours that suit you, and takes lifestyle and budget into account.

Budgets – we all know how to budget, or do we? Heather Allen, mentor and debt advisor, had us all doing mental sums – taking money here to pay for that. This lady managed to pay off £30 000 worth of debt in just 3 years. It can be done! She offers all this advice and more on her website…

The day wrapped up with a lucky draw – I was quite jealous not to win the spa treatment. And I think I speak for myself and all the ladies I met, that we all left – gorgeous goodie bags in hand – with a glowing sense of self worth, defined plans for 2007 and a song in our hearts.
